SO THIS IS LIVING

Barbara presents a gripping and emotionally steeped project with the forthcoming release of SO THIS IS LIVING on April 4th, 2025. The Denver trio’s sophomore album ranges from slowcore sludge to manic dance party in the spirit of relinquishing control and feeling feelings as they come. With great reverence to the emotions that can’t be explained with words, the trio layers sweet nylon acoustic guitar and mesmerizing percussion with wobbly synths and distortion-drenched guitar in tracks like “Burn Me” and “Tart Cherry” that nod to the absurdity and incongruence of life. Dreamy shoegaze tracks “My Birthday Party” and “Bndryl” evolve into gritty psychedelic climaxes, and the hypnotic pockets of “so this is living?” and “side effects” lure listeners into their palm for the bacchanal of “Dark Water Disco.” Guitarist and vocalist Vaitaitis, bassist Hartman, and drummer Panella of Barbara all flex their multi-instrumental talents with the textural addition of synth, saxophone, and trombone throughout the nine-track LP. Lyrically driven, strikingly unusual, and deeply transformative— SO THIS IS LIVING reflects the burgeoning confidence of the trio in every way.
